Interferential Therapy

Interferential therapy is an electrotherapy modality that uses two medium-frequency electrical currents which intersect within the body. This interaction produces a low-frequency effect at a deeper tissue level, while remaining comfortable at the skin surface.

Electrodes are placed around the affected area, and the current is applied at an intensity that produces a strong but comfortable tingling sensation.

Your practitioner may use interferential therapy to help reduce pain, decrease muscle tension, and settle sensitive or irritated neural structures. It is commonly applied in presentations such as low back pain, joint pain, and soft tissue irritation.

The aim is to modulate pain, promote muscle relaxation, and improve tolerance to movement. This can assist patients in moving more comfortably and engaging more effectively in their rehabilitation programme.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a treatment technique that uses very fine, sterile needles inserted into specific points within muscle tissue. These points are often areas of tightness or increased sensitivity, commonly referred to as trigger points.

The needle is used to create a local response in the muscle, which may feel like a brief twitch or ache. This response helps reduce muscle tension and improve the way the muscle functions.

Your practitioner may use dry needling to address muscle tightness, reduce pain, and settle overactive or irritated tissues. It is commonly applied in conditions such as low back pain, neck pain, and sports-related muscle issues.

The aim is to reduce pain, restore normal muscle activity, and improve movement quality. This supports better tolerance to exercise and allows patients to progress more effectively through their rehabilitation programme.
